Mat Zo has returned over the weekend to deliver his new Mad EP, serving as the follow up to his recently released sophomore album Self Assemble. Alongside the release of the new EP, Zo has revealed a string of upcoming performances for an accompanying tour of the same name.
The three track Mad EP sees Zo exploring a wide range of sonic terrain. The new release opens quietly with a music box passage on “Troglodyte,” creating a suspenseful introduction as ominous string build in intensity with a classical tinged chord progression. The track then moves forward into an electronic section with blippy synth arpeggios, filtered basslines and half time beats.
Up next is a collaboration with Foreign Beggars on “Take It Back,” featuring a spastic drum and bass production with rapid fire breakbeats and stuttered vocal samples. The EP culminates with the title track “Mad,” another dnb tune with skittering breaks, distorted bass and mind warping vocal samples firing off in the stereo field.
To accompany the Mad EP, Mat Zo has revealed an upcoming North American tour of the same name, scheduled to kick off later in the week in Vancouver, BC, with stops in New York, Seattle, Miami, Los Angeles and more. Check out the full list of tour dates below, and head here to purchase tickets.
