Electronic music mastermind Aphex Twin has shared two more songs from his upcoming Cheetah EP, debuting “CHEETAH7B” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 radio show, while “2X202-TS5” was premiered on Lauren Laverne’s BBC Radio 6 program.
“CHEETAH7B” is a subdued number, featuring a minimalist production with a simple four on the floor beat, ghostly synths and a consistent bass sequence. The seven minute long track evokes the repetitive nature of Aphex Twin’s early ambient techno work, as the producer slowly introduces new layers throughout its lengthy run time. “2X202-TS5” is a bit more upbeat, featuring old school drum machine beats, warbly synth pads, and a bouncy bassline. You can listen to “2X202-TS5” here, around the 1:56:00 mark.
Stylistically, Aphex Twin seems to be drawing on his older material, working in his signature acid house and ambient techno sound palettes while expanding on the sound of his last album Syro.
Cheetah is due out on July 8 via Warp Records, and can be pre-ordered here.
