As John Wick: Chapter 4 continues to absolutely kill at the box office, sights have already been set on the first ever series spin-off. Strikingly titled Ballerina, this entirely new entry into the John Wick franchise has fans freaking. Starring Ana de Armas and Gabriel Bryne, along with slated appearances from Anjelica Huston, Keanu Reeves, and Ian McShane.
First announced 2022, Ballerina will follow Ana de Armas as the ballerina assassin known as Rooney as she tracks down those who killed her family. Pretty classic stuff for the John Wick franchise, if you ask us.
Played originally by dancer Unity Phelan in John Wick: Chpater 3 – Parabellum, the reasoning behind Rooney’s recasting has yet to be released.
Set between the events of Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 4, Ballerina is sure to be a wild ride. Lionsgate, Thunder Road Film, and 87eleven have been tasked with bringing the film to life, while Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, and Chad Stahelski (director of all four John Wick films) find themselves producing.
Len Wiseman, known best for the Underworld series, has been tasked with directing Ballerina — and with a track record like Wiseman’s, anything could happen. Wiseman has also lent his talents to Total Recall and the Die Hard franchise, ensuring that this tale of reimagined revenge is in good hands.
Set to release sometime in 2024, we won’t have to wait long to return to a world of assassins, marital arts, and choreographed kills.
