With Extraction 2 upon us, the audience is getting ready to see Chris Hemsworth resume his role as protagonist Tyler Rake ready to deliver his finest performance once again after the much-applauded and acclaimed first installment.
The enormous fanbase that Hemsworth created as Rake in the film’s 2020 entry certainly did a great job in upgrading the MCU star’s position in the acting world, leading the fans to deem him a versatile actor.
However, with the excitement of what’s to expect comes mandatory reflection on some past details, and in this case, the buzz of seeing the Thor star onscreen has led many to revisit a crucial piece of information about him and raise the necessary question:
Is Chris Hemsworth retiring from acting for good?
A few months back, the news that the 39-year-old Australian actor is next in line to retire from Hollywood received extensive media coverage distressing many. Primarily because the actor was diagnosed with a rare gene called APOE4, meaning that he is at a high risk of contracting Alzheimer’s disease.
As emotional as the piece of information was for Hemsworth’s fans who gave up on the hope of ever seeing him performing onscreen, to their delight, the actor assured that he won’t be leaving the industry for good but might rather take a much-needed break from the hectic schedules. He spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the same, saying that by taking a break in this context, he means spending quality time with family.
“It all got a little sort of blown out of proportion. I wanted to take off because I’ve been working for 10 years, and I’ve got three kids that I want to spend more time with.”
Adding further, he said how one of his biggest inspirations to take this step was his Disney Plus series, Limitless with Chris Hemsworth (during whose filming he was diagnosed), where the actor takes a series of physical and mental challenges to assess the ability of the human body.
Not only has the show received critical acclaim for its content, but it also allowed Hemsworth the inspiration to embark on a healthy journey as well as disseminate the knowledge of leading a good life to others. Talking about the subject, he said,
“Doing that show, each episode resonated in such a way that made me realize how life is just flying by, and I wanted to be still for long periods and more often. The information about the predisposition… allowed me to make all the changes — whether it be nutrition, my training, my mental fitness. Which is the point of the series. The whole point for me was to give people access to tools, knowledge, information on how to live a better, longer, healthier life.
Hemsworth’s medical condition is a grave reminder of Bruce Willis whose diagnosis of amnesia dealt a major blow to everyone. We most certainly don’t want anything serious to happen to Hemsworth and wish for him to enjoy a wholesome time off. But for now, let’s clear our minds and wait for the release of Extraction 2, which will be streamed on Netflix on June 16.
