With the release of the Injustice 2 digital first tie-in comic rapidly approaching, we’ve thankfully arrived at the point where information pertaining to both it and the video game it’s based on will become evermore prevalent.
In fact, author Tom Taylor appeared on an episode of DC All Access just days ago in order to discuss some of the finer points of this eagerly anticipated sequel. One detail that he let slip was that the comic will indeed take place a few years before the Injustice 2 game, thereby leaving a whole lot of wiggle room when it comes to storytelling.
What’s just as interesting is that Taylor told Comic Vine exactly where on the timeline this prequel falls, along with a few more juicy plot points:
“Injustice 2 begins soon after the first game. Superman and his regime are in prison. The world is reeling. Batman is picking up the pieces. And a big threat is growing. The world will soon be in so much peril that Emperor Superman would look like a safe option.
“We don’t want to spoil too much, but he [Batman] still has some allies. Harley Quinn is there for one. And, if you’ve seen some of the recent announcements, then you’ll know there are characters like Black Canary and Blue Beetle who will have large roles to play. There are also a lot of other heroes who haven’t been seen in the comics or the game yet.”
Furthermore, the Suicide Squad are set to play a big role, with a bit of a twist:
“This is a larger Suicide Squad than we’ve seen before. And, after a familiar set-up, something happens early on that turns the very concept of the Suicide Squad on its head. This Suicide Squad is more formidable than anything we’ve seen before.”
Injustice 2 is set to debut in digital format this April, with printed copies arriving in comic shops in May.
