GTA‘s debut album is one that we’ve been waiting on with baited breath for a while now. A number of singles like “All Caught Up,” “Feel It” and “Get It All” were teased throughout the summer ahead of the album’s release, building anticipation for the duo’s first full length effort. Now, the wait is finally over, as Good Times Ahead becomes available for streaming and purchase.
Good Times Ahead opens with hazy synth chords and echo drenched Spanish vocals on “True Romance,” before moving into a future garage rhythm with slow riding beats, shimmering melodies and R&B hooks courtesy of Jarina De Marco. Up next is the Vince Staples collab, featuring rolling, tribal drums and ghostly atmosphere underneath breakneck rap verses.
“Heartbeat” touches on future house with deep rubbery bass tones over shuffling rhythms, with soulful vocals utilized throughout. The Karina collab, “In My Nature,” features a jubilant production bouncy melodies and cracking percussion, while “Pressure” with RKCB delivers a sultry tune driven by falsetto vocals and R&B influenced chord stacks. GTA end the collection on a high note with “Illuminate,” a funky song that stands out with bubbly basslines and smoky synth pads, before diving into upbeat drops with stuttering chords and blippy leads.
GTA deliver a diverse collection of poppy dance tunes on their debut full length effort, touching on a wide array of styles and genres throughout its ten tracks. Sonically, the album falls somewhere between Flume and Disclosure, with off kilter production values and irresistible pop vocals colliding in a series of memorable songs.
