Flume sure knows how to build anticipation for an album. The Australian downtempo/future bass pioneer has let tracks from his long-awaited Skin LP trickle out at a snail’s pace, and now he’s used a guest appearance on British radio personality Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show as a platform to premiere a new song from the album.
After brief introductions, Flume and Kai perform “Never Be Like You,” the first single from the effort. As they did during their performance of the song at Laneway Music Festival, the duo prove themselves capable of delivering both live and in the studio.
Next, however, is an as-yet untitled track – and Mac encourages those listening to call in and pitch their own titles. Dissonant melodies and almost melancholic vocals make it a darker song than the rest of what Flume’s put out so far on the Skin LP, and we’re definitely digging it.
Lastly, Flume performs a cover of Alessia Cara’s “Here” during which Kai and vocalist Kučka trade off verses against a backdrop of resonant synth melodies.
If you’re anything like us, you’re more than ready at this point for Flume to go ahead and release the rest of the Skin LP, aren’t you?
