Heading to Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network this fall, Guardians of Middle-Earth, coming from F.E.A.R. developers Monolith Productions, will bring the ‘Massive Online Battle Arena’ experience to Middle-Earth. Themed around The Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit, the studio plans to launch the game ahead of December’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey blockbuster.
According to the announcement, the game will feature 10 players fighting in five-on-five matches set amidst Middle-Earth’s characteristically majestic backdrop, as well as various playable ‘Guardians’ from the Lord of the Rings lore. With a comprehensive online leaderboard and in-game voice communication system, the game is likely to be almost as rife with Lord of the Rings references as it is competition.
Since hearing the news, I have become quite suitably obsessed with the possibility of playing as Gollum in some PvP Middle-Earth melees. With E3 just around the corner, I can’t help but feel that Monlith Productions will be throwing their wizard’s hat into the ring rather soon, but I’ll be keeping my all seeing eye on this one regardless.
