Exploring a new style can be a huge risk for a musician, but in cases like this it pays off. Elephante ventured into future house territory with his latest track, “Catching On” featuring Nevve, and it’s definitely the kind of release that could put an up-and-comer like him on the map.
Nevve’s dewy vocals make for a similar enough top line to other recent Elephante songs – like his Bishøp-featured “Closer,” for instance. The bass line at the chorus is where “Catching On” really shines, though. With just enough sawtooth grit to stand out in the listeners mind, it makes for a perfect accompaniment to the track’s more melodic elements.
With a string of standout singles under his belt so far in 2016, it’s safe to say that the electronic music community’s got their collective eye on Elephante. Back in March he told us that he had four or five more releases in the works and has only released two since then, so there’s more where “Catching On” came from on the horizon.
