Disclosure‘s Howard and Guy Lawrence have been pulling out all the stops to keep the blogosphere buzzing about their upcoming album, Caracal – the latest of which being yet another track from the effort entitled “Willing & Able.” Featuring a markedly lower tempo and soulful vocals by “Walk” vocalist Kwabs, the track makes for a tasteful departure from traditional house music without abandoning many of the outfit’s hallmarks.
A humming melody punctuated by artistically exaggerated sidechain compression leads the listener to Kwabs’ first verse, and then the duo’s trademark rubbery organ synths accompany his high notes in the verses. While the lower BPMs might require the Surrey, England brothers to exercise a little more finesse than usual while mixing it into their live sets, everything else about the ambience of the song matches their style.
It wasn’t all that long ago that Disclosure announced the official track list for Caracal, and although they’ve been letting a lot of tracks from the album trickle out – like their highly-anticipated second Sam Smith collaboration, “Omen,” for instance – it’s clear that quite a few surprises remain.
