DayZ has really had an incredible journey thus far. The mod is single handedly taking ARMA 2 from a niche game to one of the most talked about titles of the year. We saw the player count in DayZ ramp up by more than 500,000 players in the last month alone. It’s unprecedented and it has really changed the outlook for a lot of companies on their approach to PC gaming.
Today on Tumblr, DayZ creator Dean “Rocket” Hall officially announced that the game will be going solo and will have a standalone release in the upcoming months. Hall left a post on the official site stating that:
“Development and updates of the mod will continue in parallel with the development of the game, so anyone who is playing the mod now will be able to continue to do so. The project will follow the Minecraft development model; fast iterations with the community alpha available for a heavily discounted price.”
Hall will have a bit of help getting the game out. He is officially the project lead at Bohemia Interactive, giving him a full team to work with.
I can’t help but be a bit giddy thinking of what he’s capable of with this amount of support behind him. This news has me very excited and the release cannot get here soon enough.
