Major Lazer’s “Lean On” was 2015’s bonafide blockbuster. The collaboration with DJ Snake and MØ dominated the number one spot on Billboard’s dance music charts for a startling 23 weeks over the year, went platinum, and is Spotify’s most streamed song of all time. But the track’s dominion had to end at some point.
Now, The Chainsmokers have ousted the reign of “Lean On” and taken up the mantle with “Roses,” their easy-going collaboration with Rozes. It’s cut of a future-bass, trap influenced cloth, but maintains a mellow dance flavor that’s perfect for winter.
Along with curating its own nostalgia, the track has seen countless interpretations over the months, only serving to further explore its ambient territory.
If you haven’t already heard the tune, have a listen above and you’ll understand The Chainsmokers’ meteoric rise to the top.
