Being creeped out by clowns was once somewhat of an unsubstantiated paranoia – pre-Stephen King’s It, and that one serial killer. Well, actually, never mind – they’ve always been creepy. Art the clown of Terrifier just made the fear more vivid.
In 2016, director Damien Leone and Epic Pictures unleashed upon audiences a heartless serial murderer of indiscriminate taste and unknown origin who gleefully carried out his crimes on Halloween night, leaving a sole surviving victim horribly disfigured and traumatized. The fact is, by the end of the film, there is seemingly nothing about Art that is supernatural. Yes, it’s true that he reanimates in the morgue to signify a sequel, but it could have been a case of catalepsy. But just the simple fact of Art’s existence and the sheer brutality of his crimes is enough to scare the pants off of us and keep us lying awake at night staring at the ceiling.
Then came Terrifier 2. Just in case Art hadn’t turned the ick factor up to 11 in that one scene in the flagship film, he went so over-the-top in the sequel, Leone isn’t even sure how to top it for the already- announced threequel.
Due out in Fall of 2024, we can’t help but predict that will be somewhere in the area of Halloween, but what better way to beat the summer heat than a theatrical re-release of the original Terrifier? Why not? You’ve already been to the beach and visited your local pool multiple times, it’s literally too hot to do anything else.
When does Terrifier come out in theaters?
Terrifier hits theaters again this July 19, so hurry up and get your tickets. Or don’t. After all, “punctuality is the thief of time, dear.”
