Astonishing X-Men
If there’s one character that deserves a better on-screen interpretation, it’s Cyclops. Although casual movie fans can be forgiven for thinking he’s just an obstacle for Wolverine in a cheesy love triangle, comic fans know the truth. Cyclops is supposed to be one of the main characters in X-Men, but his time on the big screen has seen him play second fiddle to Wolverine and then killed off screen. It’s a huge disservice to him and a huge disappointment for fans.
There are a lot of reasons why Joss Whedon’s X-Men comic storyline “Astonishing X-Men” should be adapted to the big screen, but the biggest one is how it places Cyclops front and center. It shows why he’s a brilliant leader and strategist and absolutely deserves to be the face of the X-Men. Seeing this on the big screen will make you forget all about his awful interpretation in the original trilogy, trust us.
Even if Cyclops isn’t your cup of tea, there are a lot of other cool elements in Whedon’s X-Men storyline, including a bit regarding a mutant cure. Yes, if the words “mutant cure” make your cringe because it causes horrible flashbacks to X-Men: The Last Stand, fear not! Whedon’s incorporation of a mutant cure is actually well-written.
