The news of the impending return of GOT7 has Kpop fans extremely excited. With fans eagerly awaiting their upcoming self-titled EP and new comeback shows. But who leads this legendary group and what have they done outside of GOT7?
Who Are GOT7?
Debuting in 2014, GOT7 has cemented itself as one of the most popular Kpop bands on the scene. Created by JYP Entertainment, the band’s members consist of Mark, Jay B, Jackson, Jinyoung, Youngjae, BamBam, and Yugyeom. GOT7 has released five studio albums and 15 EPs over their long career. They have also won various awards, including Asia Artist Awards, Gaon Chart Music Awards, and Mnet Asian Music Awards. They have also found success outside of Korea, with their songs and albums selling well across Japan and America.
Who Is The Leader Of GOT7?
In Kpop culture, each band member has a specific role within the group, and many of these roles are ranked, with some taking precedence over others. While many of these roles are linked to performance skills, some are assigned based on other merits. The Leader role is one such role, as it is usually given to the band’s oldest member.
The leader of GOT7 is Jay B. Jay B got his big break in 2011 when he was cast in the Korean TV show Dream High 2. In this show, he took the role of Jang Woo-jae. Then, in 2012 he and future GOT7 member Jin-young debuted as the double act JJ Project. JJ Project had moderate success with their single “Bounce” and EP Verse 2.
However, in 2014, the boy’s label, JYP Entertainment, decided to include them in the new boyband GOT7. As the leader of GOT7, Jay B has been launched into a whole new level of success, including many awards and top-selling albums.
But this isn’t all Jay B has done. He has had many other successful projects outside of GOT7. In 2015 he appeared in the web drama Dream Knight and in 2019, he and Yugyeom joined Jus2, a subunit of GOT7. Jus2 released the ep Focus. Also, in 2019, he dipped his toes into the world of fashion, working with the label Represent to make a line of clothing.
When GOT7’s contract with JYP expired in 2021, Jay B signed with H1ghr Music and released a single called “Switch It Up.” This led to a full EP titled SOMO: Fume, landing in November 2021. In January 2022, he released another solo EP called Love.
Then, in May 2022, he joined with the other members of GOT7 to announce that the band would be reforming and embarking on a new tour.
