Say what you want about Tiësto, but at least he can still be spontaneous. Today, the veteran superstar DJ has released the fourth edition of his Clublife mix album series, Clublife Vol 4: New York City, without any previous promotion or announcements.
“I launched my Clublife series with the idea of creating a mix album inspired by cities that love dance music,” Tiësto said in the promotional video above while he and Martin Garrix’s “The Only Way Is Up” played in the background. “Now, it’s time to show respect to the city that never sleeps – New York.”
The first album of the series was inspired by Las Vegas, where the artist’s residency at Hakkasan Nightclub has taken place. The second and third were inspired by Miami and Stockholm, respectively.
Tiësto often receives criticism for abandoning his trance roots and adopting a more big room style in his mixes and productions (by fans who obviously overlook that he actually started out as a hardstyle artist and went by the stage name “Da Joker”), but you can’t deny that he knows how to play to the crowd. As far back as his In Search of Sunrise compilations, he’s had his finger on the four-four pulse of dance music’s dominant genres – making his new albums worth a listen for that reason alone.
