Up and comer k?d is quickly establishing himself as a producer with a bright future. The nineteen year old musician delivered a stunning collaboration with RKCB earlier in the summer with “Discover,” a heartfelt future bass tune that featured a self-animated music video from the producer himself. Now he’s back to offer up a re-imagining of Porter Robinson’s classic “Sad Machine” and we couldn’t be happier with the results.
The remix opens with the vocaloid topline hooks from the original song, before plodding electric piano chords and a shrill melody enter the speakers. As the somber progression repeats on, k?d builds the energy up with swells of white noise and rising percussion, pushing the tune forward into future bass drops. Fluttering synth chords and simple drum patterns converge to a euphoric effect, offering up an emotive journey through rhythm and melody.
For his “Sad Machine” remix, k?d delivers a stunning rendition of the tune that is both familiar and new, utilizing the best elements from Porter Robinson’s production while taking them in a fresh direction. The young producer is quickly coming into his own with a unique sound, and we can’t wait to see what he rolls out in the future.
K?d has generously offered up the remix as a free download, which can be found here.
