It’s an understatement to say that we haven’t been thrilled with Kaskade lately. The progressive house superstar seems to think he needs to make future house to stay relevant. It would be one thing if his recent efforts were good, but spoiler alert, they’re not.
Kaskade had teased at a remix of Jack Ü’s “Where Are Ü Now” not too long ago, and Oliver Heldens recently premiered it on the 51st episode of his Heldeep podcast (which is ironic considering that we referred to Kaskade’s recent material as “Oliver Heldens knockoffs” not too long ago). The sad thing about this track is that it would actually be a decent remix, but just like everything else Kaskade’s put out in lately, it fades in an awkward future house bass line that doesn’t add anything to the composition as a whole.
You might assert that we’re being unnecessarily hard on the L.A.-based producer, but it’s only because we’re so used to him putting out quality music. We’ll be the ones to say what everyone else is thinking: Future house is not Kaskade’s strong suit. With each forgettable track he releases, we worry that his new album will only be more of the same – and fans aside, he owes himself more than that.
Kaskade‘s remix of Jack Ü’s “Where Are You Now” mixes in at 51:30 in the episode of Heldeep on the SoundCloud player above. Take a listen and tell us, do you think the track is worthy of Kaskade’s stamp of approval, or should he go back to what he does best? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
