Ookay unveiled a new video this week for his track “Thief,” delivering a heartfelt tribute to the victims of the Pulse shooting in Orlando earlier this month. The video was co-directed by the producer himself, alongside the students of The New York Film Academy.
The clip for “Thief” features a diverse group of couples dancing as Ookay sings the song, leading up to the funky drops featuring a stellar saxophone performance. It’s a simple concept, but the video manages to pull it off in a visually memorable way.
In a recent interview, Ookay stated that the events in Orlando changed his perspective on his vision for the video clip. In a quote, he stated the following:
“As someone who spends the majority of my time in nightclubs trying to bring people together through music, it resonated deeply with me that someone tried to take that safe place away from us all. I wanted to send a message with this video that I truly believe in… In a world filled with hate, all we have is love. Nobody should have any fear when it comes to loving someone regardless of gender or race.”
