Beyonce has grown to such an iconic level that hearing that she made an appearance at the Country Music Awards doesn’t even make you bat an eye. Whatever endeavor the pop queen decides to take on, she handles it like she was born to do it. The Lemonade singer had perhaps the biggest show-stopping moment of the night at the November 2nd awards show when she performed her track, “Daddy Lessons,” with some help from the Dixie Chicks.
The Dixie Chicks joined Beyonce on the stage with a full band coupled with horns and guitars, adding even more of a country twang to the song — it was by far one of the most memorable moments of Beyonce’s year. Given how dark and dramatic the whole Lemonade saga was in terms of tone, it was nice to see such an emphatic and lively performance from Queen Bey and her accompanying country legends. The sounds meshed all too well, and the performance surely puts anyone who may have rolled their eyes at the thought of the collaboration in their place.
Mixing pop with the Country Music Awards isn’t a new thing at all – last year, Justin Timberlake served up a performance of his 20/20 Experience track, “Drink You Away,” with Chris Stapleton. But what was accomplished here with Dixie Chicks was far more ambitious and inventive, and it only helps solidify Beyonce as one of the most exciting names in music.
