Anna Lunoe made history at EDC Las Vegas over the weekend, becoming the first solo female DJ act to throw down a set on kineticFIELD, the festival’s main stage. The performance comes as a major achievement for female DJs everywhere, who represent a minority in EDM festival bookings.
Lunoe’s set deviated from her usual style to bring a more aggressive and energetic sound to the main stage, dropping some bass house for the beat hungry crowd, including her own track “Bass Drum Dealer.”
The last time a female act graced the main stage at EDC Las Vegas was in 2014 when Krewella hit kineticFIELD, so it’s a notable moment for Anna Lunoe to hold down the main stage on her own. And in keeping with the progressive theme, Lunoe‘s set was followed by another solo female DJ in the form of Alison Wonderland.
Combined, this marks a big step forward for the genre that will hopefully result in greater inclusion of female acts in the festival scene.
