Here’s your crazy Internet rumor of the day: Zack Snyder’s fabled cut of Justice League may be rolled out during San Diego Comic-Con 2018.
Over on Vero (h/t ComicBook.com), one curious DC fan posted a message stating: “Here’s to hoping the boss man himself @ZackSnyder makes it to San Diego Comic-Con this year.” Pretty innocuous, by all accounts, but the director has since ‘liked’ that very post, leading many to speculate that Snyder plans to make an appearance at SDCC next month. Crazy, we know, but stick with us.
All of this is subject to debate, of course, given the circumstances surrounding his abrupt exit from Justice League and DC Films, in general. The record shows Snyder vacated the director’s chair due to an unforeseen family tragedy, leaving the onus on Joss Whedon (The Avengers) to oversee extensive reshoots in order to get Justice League over the finish line.
But subsequent reports have revealed that Warner Bros. executives weren’t happy with the film even before Snyder’s departure, while the director himself seems pretty pleased to have moved on from DC movies.
Last we reported, Warner Bros. was allegedly open to the idea of Zack Snyder releasing his unfinished cut on the condition that his production company, Cruel and Unusual Films, foots the bill, given there are likely scores of effects shots still to be completed. All in all, it would be a pretty costly venture for everyone involved, and the fact that Justice League struggled to make much of a dent at the domestic box office only exacerbates the situation.
Be that as it may, Snyder fans are adamant that an unfinished version of Justice League exists somewhere deep in the Warner Bros. archives, and it’s really a question of when, rather than if, it’ll see the light of day. I guess we’ll find out more once Warner’s SDCC showcase begins next month.
