Upon learning that Warner Bros. had registered domain names for a number of possible titles for the Amazon Warrior’s next solo outing, it was only a matter of time before an official announcement was made. Personally, I was hoping for something more straightforward and simplistic such as “Wonder Woman 2” or “Wonder Woman Returns,” but neither of those panned out.
As fate would have it, the studio ultimately settled on Wonder Woman 1984, which was confirmed alongside a couple of officially released images this morning, one of which featured Gal Gadot reprising the titular role, and the other spotlighting a mysteriously returning Chris Pines as (presumably) Steve Trevor.
And though Patty Jenkins is back in the director’s chair for the highly anticipated sequel, the man who helped to kickoff the DC Extended Universe, Zack Snyder, has also decided to get in on the excitement by – you guessed it – sharing another picture from his time spent with Wondy.
Appearing to have been captured sometime during the Doomsday fight witnessed in Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Gal looks to be in a rather celebratory mood, which we surmise reflects how she’s been feeling on the set of her latest project in recent days.
Of course, more goodies by way of Jenkins and Gadot should surface in the months to come and as you can imagine, I, too, am looking forward to seeing Diana’s new costume that we’ve heard whispers about. It would be cool if she dons the suit introduced in Wonder Woman #600, but anything’s possible at this point – I just doubt I’ll be granted my wish of seeing her sporting a Flock of Seagulls hairdo.
Wonder Woman 1984 opens in theaters on November 1, 2019.
