Before he began barking orders at Stark and Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Nick Fury was one of the few people to bear witness to a Captain Marvel at the height of her powers – hence Fury’s decision to beam out one last-minute SOS during the post-credits scene of Avengers: Infinity War.
It was perhaps the perfect teaser for Carol Danvers and her inevitable appearance in Avengers 4, but early next year, Marvel Studios plans to whisk viewers off to the 1990s for its standalone Captain Marvel movie, and today brings forth some leaked concept art of Miss. Danvers (and Fury!) decked out in full costume.
Arriving on the heels of this morning’s unexpected showcase for Avengers 4, one which also featured the great and powerful Captain Marvel, Twitter user AJ Designs has unearthed yet more MCU artwork, only this time, the focus is on the studio’s other buzzworthy movie of 2019…
And no, your eyes do not deceive you; that’s a young Nick Fury sans eyepatch, as Captain Marvel takes place long before Samuel L. Jackson’s secret agent took charge of S.H.I.E.L.D. and began developing the Avengers Initiative – an initiative that would, through time, lay the foundations for Marvel’s biggest team-up movies.
It’s likely the closest we’ll get to a Fury prequel for quite some time, so we’re intrigued to see how directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck handle their MCU time capsule.
Rooted in the 1990s and said to introduce the MCU’s strongest ever hero, Captain Marvel has been booked in for release on March 8th, 2019, before Marvel Studios journeys back to the future in time for Avengers 4.
