Vikram Gandhi’s independent feature Barry has today nabbed its two leading stars, with The Hollywood Reporter bringing word that Devon Terrell has been cast to play a younger version of Barack Obama.

Situated long before Obama made American history by becoming the President of the United States, Gandhi’s movies places a laser focus on his formative years as a New York college student in the early ’80s, where he forged a relationship with a fellow student.

Fresh off her turn in Robert Eggers’ blood-curdling horror flick The Witch, THR notes that it is Anya Taylor-Joy that will star opposite Terrell in the drama, though there’s little-to-no information regarding plot beyond the fact that Obama’s encounter with Taylor-Joy’s character is described as a fateful one. What we do know is that novelist Adam Mansbach, best known for penning adult’s children book Go the F**k to Sleep, is working on the script.

Shooting is scheduled to get underway towards the end of March for Gandhi’s Barry. Teddy Schwarzman and Ben Stillman of Black Bear will produce, joined by Dana O’Keefe and Gandhi himself.

As for the film’s newfound stars, Devon Terrell – not to be confused with musician Devvon Terrell – is a relative newcomer having made his first appearance in Codes of Conduct. Taylor-Joy, on the other hand, is one of Hollywood’s exciting new up-and-comers, and is primed to follow up her head-turning role in The Witch with Morgan and M. Night Shyamalan’s latest creative effort, Split.
