With little over a month to go until the film’s long-anticipated theatrical release, 20th Century Fox has conjured up the new international poster for Alien: Covenant, Ridley Scott’s prequel-sequel that thrusts the titular crew into the midst of a dark, dangerous planet.
That rocky outcrop isn’t actually the final destination of the Covenant expedition, but in classic Alien fashion, Katherine Waterston’s Daniels – a terraforming expert on board – and the rest of the crew break course when a distress call rings out across the cosmos. And that is where our journey begins.
Indeed, today’s all-new one-sheet sheds some light on the moment when things begin to go south, as you’ll see on the far left members of the Covenant crew poking and prodding at a crashed Juggernaut ship. Perhaps it’s the same vessel belonging to Noomi Rapace’s Elizabeth Shaw? It would certainly explain that shot fromĀ recent trailers in which eagle-eyed fans spotted Shaw’s wayward dog tags. There’s also a shot of a pensive Michael Fassbender (Walter) looking over the shoulder of Daniels, who can be seen prepped and ready for combat, channeling the iconic Ellen Ripley in the process. Are the two related? We’ll find out soon enough.
On May 19th, the journey to paradise begins in hell. Alien: Covenant is the next chapter in Ridley Scott’s decorated sci-fi series, and there’s still life in the ol’ Xenomorph yet. Not only has the director teed up plans for another installment – one that may come bearing the title Alien: Awakening – but there’s even been talk of a whole new trilogy coming to fruition in the not-so-distant future. And you thought the beast was cooked.
