All across the next few months, moviegoers will find themselves awash with all-encompassing superhero battles, starting with the release of this week’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice.

But look beyond Zack Snyder’s ensemble piece and Captain America: Civil War and you arrive at Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Apocalypse, the final chapter in the director’s lucrative, and critically acclaimed, prequel trilogy. Last week summoned forth the second full-length trailer, and now we have the latest promo artwork spotlighting Beast and Angel, all the while offering up new looks at the younger versions of Cyclops and Nightcrawler.

Of the ensemble cast set to leap onto screen in a few months’ time, Alexandra Shipp, Oscar Isaac and Olivia Mumm topline the list of newcomers, joining Game of Thrones‘ Sophie Turner, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Lana Condor. The X-Men stalwarts, meanwhile, include James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult and Evan Peters as Quicksilver.

Perhaps what’s most exciting about Peters’ return is the promise of a new and improved Quicksilver screen, and though topping the one featured in Days of Future Past will no doubt be a tall order, the actor himself has hinted at developing the sequel to that jaw-dropping sequence.

The end is nigh: X-Men: Apocalypse lands in theaters on May 27.

X-Men-Apocalypse

“Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshiped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel’s X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.”
