Occasionally there are indie films that really stand out, and Writers seems to be one of them. It also doesn’t hurt that unlike what most audiences associate with the term “indie,” this one doesn’t appear to be low budget or lacking talent.
Writers boasts a wonderful cast too with names like Logan Lerman, Jennifer Connelly, Lily Collins, Kristen Bell and Greg Kinnear. Lerman and Collins may not have very long IMDB resumes yet, but after tackling The Perks of Being a Wallflower and Mirror, Mirror, respectively, they are proving their acting chops.
I’m sure that veteran actors Connelly, Bell and Kinnear each bring a different dynamic to the production as well. Bell has a reputation for taking on more light-hearted roles ever since her title role in the Veronica Mars series came to an end and it should be a real treat to see her in something with a little more depth. That’s not to say that her roles aren’t plenty entertaining – they certainly are – but I personally miss her flair for the dramatic.
Although the film only wrapped principal photography in the Spring, it is already scheduled to make its worldwide premiere in the fall at TIFF.
The film is still relatively under the radar, so if you’ve never heard of it before, check out the synopsis below before you take a look at the first look images (via The Playlist).
An acclaimed writer, his ex-wife and their teenaged children come to terms with the complexities of love in all its forms over the course of one tumultuous year in Writers, the clever, funny, and touching tale of a fractured family trying to rediscover one another.
Writers has already secured Canadian distribution with Entertainment One but is still shopping around for a U.S. option.
