Glass is the official title of M. Night Shyamalan’s next creative venture, which is simultaneously a sequel to Split and 2000’s cult classic Unbreakable.
It’s the third, conclusive chapter in a trilogy 17 years in the making, and it’ll haunt theaters on January 18th, 2019. Perhaps most exciting of all though is that it’ll bring together the series’ three principal characters, too, after Deadline confirmed that Bruce Willis, Samuel L Jackson, and James McAvoy have each signed on to reprise their respective roles.
Confirmation comes to us by way of M. Night Shyamalan’s personal Twitter feed, where the prolific director noted that a script is now in place. He’s often called the master of secrecy in film circles, but considering that the Split/Unbreakable saga has grown into a passion project over the past two decades, it seems that Shyamalan just couldn’t sit on the announcement any longer. And we don’t blame him.
Per Twitter:
Okay. Here we go. Finished the new script.

It’s taken 17 years but I can finally answer the #1 question I get, “Are you making a f#&@ing sequel to Unbreakable or what?”

My new film is the sequel to #Unbreakable AND #Split. It was always my dream to have both films collide in this third film.

Universal Pictures will release #Glass on January 18, 2019 all over the world. How’s that for not keeping a secret!

The Shyamalan comeback continues, folks, and after the director engineered Split into a bona fide sleeper hit, one that would go on to rake upwards of $275 million at the box office, we’re delighted that one of the industry’s more tenacious, intriguing filmmakers now gets the chance to complete his story. Bringing together the superhuman dream team of Willis, Samuel L. Jackson and James McAvoy will be a moment to cherish for those ardent fans that have stuck with Shyamalan since Unbreakable 17 years ago, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on the sequel as it inches closer to production.
It’s official: Glass will finish the story when Universal launches the sequel worldwide on January 18th, 2019. Split, meanwhile, just touched down for Blu-ray and DVD last week – alternate ending included – and WGTC is currently hosting a giveaway that includes M. Night Shyamalan’s mind-bending thriller, along with Ouija: Origin Of Evil and The Visit. Details of how to enter can be found here.
