Diana Prince of Themyscira has uprooted for the summer of 2020.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Wonder Woman 1984 will now hit theaters on June 5th, 2020, a full seven months after its original November 2019 release window.
Warner Bros. had initially chosen to bring Diana’s second solo adventure forward by six weeks to stay clear of Star Wars: Episode IX, but this latest reshuffling will allow WW84 to compete in the summer season “where it belongs,” according to Jeff Goldstein, President of Domestic Distribution at the company.
We had tremendous success releasing the first Wonder Woman film during the summer so when we saw an opportunity to take advantage of the changing competitive landscape, we did. This move lands the film exactly where it belongs.
And here’s further confirmation, courtesy of Gal Gadot’s own personal Twitter feed:
Super excited to announce that, thanks to the changing landscape, we are able to put Wonder Woman back to its rightful home. June 5, 2020. Be there or be square!!!

Goldstein is certainly right in saying that the first Wonder Woman movie enjoyed “tremendous success” in the summer window, earning a record-shattering $821 million worldwide and cementing Diana Prince as the new breakout star of the DCEU. So while the likes of Henry Cavill (Superman) and Ben Affleck (Batman) have fallen by the wayside, Gal Gadot’s Immortal Warrior has only grown in prominence with each passing installment, and today’s seven-month delay is an ambitious move on Warner’s part, as it thrusts WW84 into cinema’s most crowded corridor – at least when it comes to popcorn movies and edge-of-your-seat blockbusters.
The move to June 2020 has also had a knock-on effect on the Six Billion Dollar Man, another Warner Bros. joint, which is effectively off the calendar for the time being so that Wonder Woman 1984 can swoop in to claim that primetime June 5th, 2020 slot.
So, despite plans to launch three DC movies in the space of 12 months (read: Aquaman and Shazam!), Warner Bros. has now settled for two so as to allow WW84 some extra time in the oven. And, frankly, that can be no bad thing.
