It’s no secret that the Internet has been awash with rumors and half-baked stories concerning Star Wars: Episode IX, its mystery title, and the ETA of Lucasfilm’s trailer reveal.

Balance of the Force became a popular candidate over the past few days, though it likely has something to do with a Star Wars-themed pinball machine, and not the final chapter in the storied Skywalker Saga. Nevertheless, the speculation continues, with today bringing yet another Episode IX tidbit concerning Rey and her long-rumored parentage.

You’ll remember that The Last Jedi famously (and perhaps controversially?) revealed Rey’s parents to be nobodies, as Kylo Ren bellowed: “They were filthy junk traders who sold you off for drinking money.” Yeesh. But The Daily Express suggests that Episode IX has another trick up its sleeve, and will identify Rey’s mother as none other than Qi’ra of Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Here’s the alleged scene description:

A description of Rey inside a large cave with an ignited blue lightsaber. There are dozens of blue orbs floating around her, illuminating everything with a blue glow. The next goes over Rey walking into the cave where many Jedi relics are. Kira Rey enters the Cave of Dismay.

It’s an allegation we’ve heard numerous times before, as it would tie Daisy Ridley’s conflicted Rey to Han Solo and, by effect, the mercurial Kylo Ren – that is assuming Rey really is the child of Han and Qi’ra, and not some “filthy junk traders” as we initially thought. Or perhaps she’s a descendant of Qi’ra and another galactic smuggler, given her age suggests she was born around the same time as Kylo, and therefore when Han and Leia were still together. Surely Abrams and Co. aren’t planning to retcon Han’s story and introduce Rey as a bastard? Who knows.

What we do know, however, is that Star Wars: Episode IX is scheduled for take-off on December 20th. And you won’t want to miss this one.
