Though BBC’s hit series may be on indefinite hiatus at the moment, there’s certainly no shortage of Sherlock goodness for fans to feast on. Not only is Robert Downey Jr. getting ready to reprise his role as the iconic detective for Sherlock Holmes 3, but Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, the duo famous for Anchorman, Step Brothers and Talladega Nights, are about to offer their own take on the property with Holmes and Watson.
It’s the former who’ll be donning the deerstalker hat this Christmas, when he’ll be cracking cases and generally reveling in 20th century London alongside Dr. John Watson (Reilly). It’ll definitely be a big departure from previous Holmes/Watson duos like Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman, as well as the aforementioned Downey Jr. and Jude Law, but we’re excited to see how one of Hollywood’s most bankable double acts bring to life the celebrated detective stories of Arthur Conan Doyle.
Though a trailer still eludes us, the marketing for the pic is now beginning to heat up. Just the other week, we got our very first look at Ferrell and Reilly in their roles and today, we have another glimpse at the new Holmes and Watson thanks to the poster down below.
Of course, those two aforementioned actors aren’t the only ones you’ll be seeing in the film, as it’ll also feature Lauren Lapkus as Millie (a Holmes aficionado, no less), Rob Brydon, Kelly Macdonald, Mission: Impossible alum Rebecca Hall, Hugh Laurie and Ralph Fiennes of Harry Potter fame. All in all, it makes for an impressive ensemble, while we understand that Etan Cohen will be calling the shots from behind the lens.
The long-in-development Holmes and Watson will sneak into theaters on December 21st, by which point moviegoers will be heading out to catch Bumblebee: The Movie and a little-known DC project called Aquaman on the big, big screen. Suffice it to say, the residents of 221b Baker Street face a tall order if they’re to carve out an audience of their own this festive season.
