Sony Pictures and Bridesmaids director Paul Feig are finally – finally! – on the verge of assembling their crack team of Ghostbusters, and a string of new clips emerging today ask the question: Who you gonna call?
With only one week to go before the reboot’s theatrical bow here in the States, much of the footage included in those clips is overly familiar, be it a new look at Feig’s ‘Busters experimenting with prototype weaponry or Kevin (Chris Hemsworth) proudly presenting his decidedly NSFW logo for the Conductors of the Metaphysical Examination. Or Ghostbusters, for short.
That’s a team that comprises Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Melissa McCarthy, who is primed to reunite with Paul Feig following Bridesmaids and last year’s surprise hit Spy. Reflecting on the longstanding legacy of the Ghostbusters franchise, the filmmaker recently told CNET that even now, thirty years on from the original movies, there’s plenty of spooky tales still to be told.
“It’s such a big idea that can’t be just contained by two movies from 30 years ago. Especially now with all the stuff we can do with special effects — it just felt remiss to not play with it again and bring it to a new generation and give them their own Ghostbusters.”
Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones will answer the call as Paul Feig’s fresh-faced ‘Busters when Sony’s long-awaited Ghostbusters reboot debuts on July 15. But can Sony’s franchise reset live up to the hype?
