Trust me, you don’t know what you’re getting into with Nimona.
Unless you’ve read the original comic by ND Stevenson, the upcoming Netflix film is all but guaranteed to surprise you. The story certainly surprised me when I first read it, after Stevenson managed to set a charming, lighthearted tone through the first half of the story, only to drastically flip the script in the second half.
Anticipation for the animated adaptation is at an all time high, particularly now that the film’s first trailer is finally here. After months of subsisting off of occasional stills and the rare update, fans got their very first look at what to expect from the flick. And, while the too-brief teaser gave but the barest glimpse of the actual story contained within the Netflix adaptation, it did provide viewers with a look at the charming art style, which is wonderfully reminiscent of Stevenson’s original work.
Months of waiting have come to an end, but with the teaser came a surge of widespread impatience. Now that we know how good it looks, fans are desperate to set their sights on the real deal.
Nimona release window
As a Netflix movie, Nimona won’t get the privilege of a theatrical release, but the unexpectedly rich story will arrive on screens soon. It’s already been through quite the rigamarole, after getting the greenlight in 2015, enduring numerous delays, and finally suffering a full-blown cancellation in 2021. Thankfully, Netflix swooped in to save the day — in stark contrast to its recent behavior — and gave the flick another chance.
We don’t have a precise release date for Nimona just yet, but Netflix has given a broad — and hopefully concrete — release window in 2023. It will likely arrive on the platform in the latter half of the year, with a release date sometime between September and December. We’ve received little but brief glimpses at the actual film, via its very first, teasing trailer, which likely means that the streamer is at least a few months out from release.
Once we know more, we’ll update this article with more concrete information.
