With The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey arriving in theatres on December 14th, Sean Chapman and I have decided it is finally time to dive into the world of J.R.R. Tolkien, on fronts literary, cinematic, and otherwise. We’ll be discussing Middle Earth for the next month or so, but on this first Tolkien-themed episode, we limit our chat to the books themselves: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. These are two of our very favorite books of all time, and to do them justice, we trace our own personal history with the series, offer in-depth thoughts on each work, and briefly explore the massive expanded universe Professor Tolkien created.

Enjoy the show, and come back next week when we dive into the world of Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings film trilogy!
