Even though the superhero team-up movie is nothing new at this point, we’ve yet to see two distinct groups face off in the live action realm. I’m sure that an Avengers vs. X-Men movie will happen within the next decade or so (fingers crossed), but let’s not forget how Fox did consider X-Men vs. Fantastic Four not long ago.
As it turns out, Warner Bros. could very well toss their hat into this ring somewhere down the road by assembling a Justice League vs. Suicide Squad flick. This, of course, will be contingent on the success of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad and the Justice League reboot the studio is also courting him for, but our source tells us this option is indeed being discussed.
Considering how the movie exists as only an idea at this point, no other details have been given. But if we were to hazard a guess when it comes to each teams’ lineup, it’s fair to assume the Suicide Squad from Gunn’s effort will carry over. The Justice League, meanwhile, will probably consist of those being eyed for their own reboot: Superman, Batman, Batgirl, Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Aquaman, Flash and Green Lantern.
Having said that, my gut tells me we won’t see the Justice League vs. Suicide Squad comic book miniseries written by Joshua Williamson and illustrated by various artists serving as the source material, but you never know. If it does, I doubt anyone would complain much, as it was awarded one great score after another when we were reviewing it a couple years back.
Again, this coming to fruition is reliant on how those individual films perform at the box office. I’m starting to think we either live on Earth-2 or in some sort of Bizarro World though because our reality has already seen a Suicide Squad movie become a financial success, whereas Justice League bombed. Let’s just hope things work out for the better going forward, because who wouldn’t want to see Wonder Woman go toe-to-toe with Harley Quinn?
