It’s finally here! Though it feels like forever since Peter Jackson first announced plans to revisit Middle-Earth with another trilogy of films, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was released in the US today (and in the UK yesterday). Though thus far the movie has received relatively mixed reviews, most critics have agreed that it’s at least nice to delve back into Tolkien’s world. To celebrate the release of the first of three upcoming flicks, the final video blog has been made available online – this time focusing on the end of production and the subsequent premiere.
In this blog, Peter Jackson explains about putting together the last shot for the film, and getting ready for the red carpet in New Zealand. You can also watch a man with glasses talking about building a giant Gollum, presumably because he needed something to do once the movie was over (kidding: it was used at the premiere – we hope).
You can also catch glimpses of stars like Cate Blanchett and Barry Humphries at a press conference, who, being local to New Zealand, seem to be the only ones who bothered to make the journey. Luckily, the rest of the cast turn up when it’s time to hit the red carpet (though Ian McKellen makes an appearance via video message, ’cause he’s Ian McKellen).
