The Hollywood debut of reputable director Kim Ji-Woon, The Last Stand, is unlikely to cover new ground. As a vehicle for returning action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, it gets the job done as seen in this first full-length trailer.
Ji-Woon, who made waves with mad serial killer flick I Saw The Devil has, in comparison, opted for a tame Hollywood opener. The film follows a border town Sheriff, played by Arnie, who has to defend his small town from an escaped FBI convict who happens to be a serial badger baiter drug lord.
Schwarzenegger’s inability to deliver lines sincerely is a continued trend in this trailer (why he’s so convincing as The Terminator), but we don’t watch an Arnie flick for his marvellous diction – his arse kicking will suffice, and there seems to be plenty of that! Arnie’s final quip before the trailer ends marks this film as another attempt to rival Die Hard, which itself has another sequel out in the new year.
Backing up Arnie’s sheriff will be Forest Whitaker, Johnny Knoxville, Jaimie Alexander, Luis Guzman, Peter Stormare and Genesis Rodriguez.
