After taking in Batman Ninja not too long ago, it’s probably safe to say that a palette cleanser’s in order – one which thankfully looks like it’ll arrive soon enough in the form of The Death of Superman. Having made that bold statement, you may wonder how I can have seemingly blind confidence in something, but it’s important to remember that the folks who put together the films making up the standard DC Universe animated line have very rarely let us down.
Granted, this is the second time this material has been adapted to an animated movie (Superman: Doomsday first took a go at it back in 2007), but now the story has much more room to breathe because it’ll be split into two films: The Death of Superman and Reign of the Supermen.
Speaking of which, with Death getting ready to make its Blu-ray debut on August 7th, Warner Bros. has now offered up a look at its sequel. Seen above, it’s not very much, but we do get a quick sneak peek that features a few snippets of footage along with cast and crew interviews. A full trailer will presumably be released in a few months, but for now, this will certainly do.
If it’s more information you’re after, we’ve also got the following plot summary, which teases what’s to come:
After Superman is put to rest, following his battle with Doomsday, his body is stolen from its tomb. As authorities investigate, new and completely different Supermen start appearing on the scene, making everyone wonder if Superman has been reincarnated, and if so, which of the new Supermen.
Aside from the 2019 window, there’s still no release info for Reign of the Supermen, but The Death of Superman will be made available via Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD formats on August 7 (pre-order here).
