The Conjuring series spin-off The Nun will be back haunting cinemas soon, with a sequel confirmed by Warner Bros. for the horror flick and in their slate during their CinemaCon press conference.
The original film released in 2018, and the sequel has been in the works since before then. The Conjuring alum James Wan and Peter Safran were signed on as producers for the sequel in April 2019, with Akela Cooper to pen the script.
Since 2019 though, almost nothing had been heard of around the development of The Nun 2. Thanks in part to COVID-19, it’s fallen by the wayside. Warner Bros. clarifying it still is part of their slate will come as good news to fans of the franchise, albeit it’s without much solid information.
Bonnie Aarons is confirmed to reprise her role as Valak / The Nun for the sequel, making it the third appearance for the nasty nun in The Conjuring shared universe since appearing in The Conjuring 2.
The Nun performed well at the box office in 2018, grossing $365 million from a budget of just $22 million. Its critical reception wasn’t quite in the same ballpark however, with it struggling its way to a 24 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes.
There still isn’t a release date, but Nunheads can rest assured the spooks will undoubtedly be coming at some stage. Another Conjuring universe film is also in the works, with The Crooked Man featured in The Conjuring 2 set for a solo flick.
