Deadline is reporting that actor Walton Goggins has snagged a role in Lincoln, the upcoming film from Steven Spielberg. Gearing up for a Fall 2012 release, the film will have Goggins playing Democratic Ohio Congressman Wells A. Hutchins, a man who “goes against the party line and votes to abolish slavery.”
The cast that he will join is wildly impressive, boasting names like Daniel Day-Lewis, Sally Field, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, John Hawkes, Hal Holbrook, James Spader, Tim Blake Nelson, Bruce McGill, Joseph Cross and David Straithairn. It’s a cast that is undoubtedly peacocking for an Oscar and one that will likely have its wish come true. This is going to be a serious Academy Awards contender, you can count on that.
While some may know Walton Goggins from TV’s Justified or last year’s Predators, I first became a fan of his during his run on FX’s The Shield, an absolutely brilliant show and one of my all time favorties. He’s a talented actor who usually shows up in supporting roles here and there and delivers solid performances. I always enjoy seeing him on the silver screen and his role in Spielberg’s Lincoln will add another great credit to his resume.
The film will begin shooting this Fall in Virginia.
