Given how popular Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin proved to be when he debuted back on season 1 of Daredevil, it’s actually a bit surprising that he hasn’t made the jump to the big screen yet. Especially given the fact that one of the biggest complaints lobbied against Marvel films is that they always fail to present compelling villains. With that in mind, you’d think that the studio would be eager to let Kingpin start doing some damage in the movies, but for some reason, it hasn’t happened yet.
Now that Spider-Man‘s back at Marvel and getting his very own solo film coming in July, many fans thought that maybe, just maybe, D’Onofrio would find his way into the flick for a quick cameo, possibly setting up a future appearance down the road. That’s something which could have worked out real well, but it’s already been confirmed that the actor will not be involved in Homecoming in any capacity. Not only that, but we’ve been told not to expect to see any of the small screen characters cross over into the movies. At least, not in the near future.
That doesn’t mean some of the actors aren’t interested though, and when it comes to D’Onofrio in particular, he’s expressed a desire to make the move on more than one occasion now. In fact, just this weekend he was asked on Twitter if he’d like the chance to go up against Spider-Man at some point, and here’s how he replied:

So, not much different from the actor’s past remarks then, and while it’s nice to hear that he’s still into the idea, that doesn’t mean it’s any more likely to happen. Frankly, we don’t really see why it’d be such a big deal for D’Onofrio to show up in one of the studio’s films, as Kingpin has a long history with several Marvel characters, not just Daredevil, but for some reason they want to keep him on the small screen. For the time being, at least.
Still, never say never. Everyone involved knows how popular the villain is with fans and with Vincent D’Onofrio more than game to make the transition, we wouldn’t completely rule out the possibility of Kingpin showing his face in a Marvel movie one day. It may not be one that involves Spider-Man, but something tells us the barriers will eventually come down and the studio will allow both Wilson Fisk and several others to start crossing over in due time.
