With an October release date fast approaching, Lionsgate has dug out the ritual books, spouted some Latin, and summoned forth a bevy of character posters and brand new trailer for Vin Diesel’s CG-laden action, The Last Witch Hunter.
Stepping into the ancient shoes of Kaulder, the Furious 7 star is quite literally entering a whole new world for Breck Eisner’s monstrous flick. As the titular one-man army, Diesel’s character is humanity’s sole hope of upholding the balance between our realm and the next, with today’s new full-length trailer hinting at the existence of the dream world that plays host to nine kinds of supernatural nasties.
If history has taught us anything, high-profile B movies in the vein of The Last Witch Hunter tread a fine line between cult status and box office dud, with The Sorcerer’s Apprentice and Seventh Son failing to make much of an impression beyond glitzy, and ultimately hollow. fantasy worlds.
Will Vin Diesel’s star power be enough to ignite The Last Witch Hunter to a box office success? We’ll find out when Breck Eisner’s supernatural feature opens on October 23.
The modern world holds many secrets, but the most astounding secret of all is that witches still live amongst us; vicious supernatural creatures intent on unleashing the Black Death upon the world. Armies of witch hunters battled the unnatural enemy across the globe for centuries, including Kaulder (Diesel), a valiant warrior who managed to slay the all-powerful Queen Witch, decimating her followers in the process. In the moments right before her death, the Queen curses Kaulder with her own immortality, forever separating him from his beloved wife and daughter in the afterlife. Today Kaulder is the only one of his kind remaining, and has spent centuries hunting down rogue witches, all the while yearning for his long-lost loved ones. However, unbeknownst to Kaulder, the Queen Witch is resurrected and seeks revenge on her killer causing an epic battle that will determine the survival of the human race.
