First V/H/S Viral Trailer Is A Smorgasbord Of Terror

While horror anthologies have recently become more commonplace, V/H/S really become the first surprise indie hit to kickstart the fad. Movies like The ABCs Of Death and The Theater Bizarre have since terrified with their own unique anthology ideas, but V/H/S made the ballsiest move of all by taking horror's most overplayed subgenre - found footage - and turning it into a spooky centerpiece. Despite my qualms, I still found V/H/S ripe with positives, giving directors a gleeful genre playground to run about freely - and V/H/S/2 only upped the ante.

While horror anthologies have recently become more commonplace, V/H/S really become the first surprise indie hit to kickstart the fad. Movies like The ABCs Of Death and The Theater Bizarre have since terrified with their own unique anthology ideas, but V/H/S made the ballsiest move of all by taking horror’s most overplayed subgenre – found footage – and turning it into a spooky centerpiece. Despite my qualms, I still found V/H/S ripe with positives, giving directors a gleeful genre playground to run about freely – and V/H/S/2 only upped the ante.

So if V/H/S opened the door, and V/H/S/2 spread the disease, how could a third film possibly get any worse? I’ll tell you – the videos can go viral.

Aptly titled V/H/S Viral, today brings the first glimpses of action from what’s being called the last film in the franchise (I refuse to take such claims as truths due to recent trends). Along with sales art sporting the franchise’s signature skull shape, the very first international trailer has been released, and it presents a flurry of gory, scary, and intense flashes of what could be brilliance – but it’s all a bit quick. Like a sleeve of Oreos, it tastes good going down, but it’s over before you know it!

So who will be bringing their talents to this trilogy ender? Trust me, you’re in for a treat – and genre fans will know exactly why while reading the below list.

Marcel Sarmiento (Deadgirl, The ABCs of Death segment “D Is for Dogfight”), Nacho Vigalondo (Timecrimes, Extraterrestrial), Gregg Bishop (The Other Side, Dance of the Dead), Todd Lincoln (The Apparition), plus Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Resolution, Spring) each get their own tape segment this time around, and I couldn’t be happier seeing most of these names. The only director I’m iffy on is Todd Lincoln, because I pretty much erased The Apparition from my memory – this is his second chance. Win me back, Mr. Lincoln. To the rest? Just keep on trucking!

While I highly advise you watch the trailer for yourself, this is what I could gather: someone’s playing around with a badass magician, people shoot lights out of their eyes, a woman gets messed up in the shower, there’s some sort of night-vision Paranormal Activity interpretation, a dude’s Go-Pro gets bloody, and monsters appear from the shadows at random – you know, random horror chaos.

Will V/H/S Viral send the franchise off in style? Will this motley crew of directors outshine all previous teams? Why don’t you hit the trailer below and tell us what you think!
