We already know that Kong: Skull Island looks pretty terrific, but once that hits theaters, next up for Warner Bros. in its MonsterVerse is Godzilla sequel King of the Monsters. So far, it’s shaping up quite nicely and today, the movie has made yet another exciting casting addition in the form of Academy Award-nominee Vera Farmiga. The Conjuring star will join a roster that already boasts Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) and Kyle Chandler (Manchester by the Sea).
Those two aforementioned actors are playing father and daughter, while Farmiga has been added as the wife and mother in the family. Little is known beyond that, though it’s been reported that Chandler’s character is a scientist, likely investigating Godzilla following the events of the first movie. Additional plot details are scarce, but with the cast now coming together, we hope to hear more about it soon.
While we’re feeling optimistic about the upcoming sequel thus far, it’s important that new director Michael Dougherty remains mindful of the mistakes that the first film made. Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla was far from a bad movie, but it was certainly an underwhelming one, choosing to place too much of the focus on the human character and not give us enough of the titular beast – which, let’s face it, is the real reason audiences were there in the first place. The monster was essentially a supporting character in his own film and that seriously hurt the overall experience of watching it.
That being said, Kong: Skull Island looks to have rectified that and hopefully, the next instalment in the studio’s MonsterVerse will follow suit when Godzilla: King of the Monsters stomps into theaters on March 22nd, 2019.
