David Dobkin is busy assembling his cast for The Judge and the newest addition comes in the form of Vera Farmiga. The actress will join Robert Downey Jr., who plays a big shot lawyer who heads home for his mother’s funeral, only to find that his father (played by Robert Duvall) is the prime suspect. Farmiga’s exact role hasn’t been specified but the vague details that were given state that she’ll play “a hometown girl who shares a history” with Downey Jr.’s lawyer character. How she’ll factor into the story though is still unknown.
Though not a household name, Vera Farmiga is a likeable actress and can currently be seen in the A&E series Bates Motel. She’s given great performances in films like The Departed and Up In The Air and I always enjoy seeing her show up on screen. She can definitely hold her own against the always witty and entertaining Robert Downey Jr. and she’s a welcome addition to an already great cast.
With a screenplay from Bill Dubuque and production to start up this June in Boston, there’s still time to add more faces to the cast and I’m sure we’ll be hearing more on that front shortly. When we do, we’ll be sure to let you know.
I’ve noted this before but I’ll say it again, I’m not particularly looking forward to The Judge. Sure, the cast is strong but Dobkin doesn’t have the best track record and the story doesn’t sound too compelling. I’d much rather see Robert Downey Jr. use his talents elsewhere. That being said, his presence alone should still make the film a somewhat enjoyable watch, or at least I hope.
For now though, let us know what you think of The Judge so far? Happy with how it’s shaping up? Excited to see Farmiga joining the cast? Sound off in the comments below!
