Venom Is Finally Unleashed In Awesome New Trailer For Sony’s Spinoff

Despite its A-list cast and the fact that it'll feature a beloved comic book character, there's quite a bit of worry surrounding Sony's Venom at the moment, and for good reason. After all, that first trailer which dropped a while back was oddly put together, in that it didn't even show us the titular symbiote - arguably the main attraction of the film.

UPDATE: Sony has now released the official version (after a bootleg leaked) and it can be seen above.

Despite its A-list cast and the fact that it’ll feature a beloved comic book character, there’s quite a bit of worry surrounding Sony’s Venom at the moment, and for good reason. After all, that first trailer which dropped a while back was oddly put together, in that it didn’t even show us the titular symbiote – arguably the main attraction of the film.

The result was a somewhat disappointing and generic showcase for what’s undoubtedly one of the most-anticipated comic book movies of the year. Hell, strip away the inky black title card and Venom‘s first-look teaser could have been mistaken for a bland, generic action movie featuring Tom Hardy.

Thankfully, Sony took note of our concerns and now, they’ve unleashed a brand new trailer for the film and it finally reveals what we’ve all been waiting to see: Venom, in the flesh – and he looks absolutely perfect. Granted, we don’t get to see much, but what’s here is hugely exciting, with the transformation coming off as pretty fluid as the symbiote slithers over Eddie Brock’s body until he’s fully consumed. The teeth gnashing together is also an awesome effect, and ought to ensure that Tom Hardy’s raw, tour-de-force performance shines through come October.

Story-wise, we know Venom is poised to adapt two comic arcs: Planet of the Symbiotes and Lethal Protector. The former fan-favorite first released in ’95, and follows Eddie Brock as he forms an uneasy alliance with Spider-Man in order to clear his name. David Cronenberg (The Fly) and John Carpenter (The Thing), two giants of world cinema, have also been name-dropped in the past, which tells us that Ruben Fleischer has combed through the archives so as to mine inspiration for the film’s body-horror elements.

“We all have our own problems. Our own issues. Our own demons.” Venom claws its way into theaters on October 5th and we couldn’t be more excited for it!
