One Twitter user has uncovered a sneak peek at tonight’s Venom trailer, which, at long last, shows Tom Hardy unleash his inner demons to become the titular symbiote.
This footage, which appears to have been captured at a screening of Avengers: Infinity War, offers an up-close look at Hardy’s Eddie Brock, as he becomes one with the Venom symbiote.
True to their initial promise, Sony and director Ruben Fleischer plan to use CGI wizardry when rendering Brock’s raging alter-ego, and that’s exactly what we see up above, where a glowering Tom Hardy grapples with some low-level goon before turning into a comic-accurate rendition of what is arguably Spider-Man’s greatest foe. It’s a fluid transformation, too, as the symbiote slithers over Eddie Brock’s body until he is fully consumed. The teeth gnashing together is also an awesome effect, and ought to ensure that Tom Hardy’s raw, tour-de-force performance shines through come October.
Joining Hardy for this one are Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, and Woody Harrelson of Solo: A Star Wars Story, so we’re quietly confident that Venom will be able to live up to those sky-high expectations later this year. Which is all the more impressive when you consider that an Eddie Brock solo movie has been languishing on the brink of development since as far back as 2007, when Topher Grace wrestled the sinister symbiote. But there’s a new Eddie in town, and Tom Hardy is about to bring his A game.
Venom is all set to slither into theaters on October 5th. And remember, the full trailer reveal is expected to take place later this evening, when Sony plans to unleash Brock’s symbiote upon CinemaCon. Stay tuned for more.
