With the dog days of summer now upon us, and most of this year’s cash already raked in, Universal is clearly looking to the future – specifically next blockbuster season and beyond, with the studio having announced release windows for 10 2013 films, including five new dates for some hotly buzzed properties.
Among the freshly revealed titles, Universal has set highly anticipated superhero sequel Kick-Ass 2 for June 28, Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg’s actionier 2 Guns for August 16 and original time travel flick About Time, starring Rachael McAdams, for May 10.
Additionally, Ron Howard’s Formula 1 film Rush starring Chris Hemsworth and Olivia Wilde will ride into theaters in the fall of 2013 on September 20 and Jessica Chastain’s drama Mama will get a release early next year on January 18.
Along with these newcomer announcements, some other big projects also got the shuffle. Keanu Reeves’ problemed samurai epic 47 Ronin was pushed back almost 10 months to a Christmas Day release and comic book adaptation R.I.P.D. with Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds is now set for July 19.
Furthermore, Jurassic Park 3D was pulled from the end of summer to spring 2013 and is now scheduled for April 5, Jason Bateman comedy Identity Thief is set for February 8 and finally Tom Cruise’s sci-fi epic Oblivion will now land in theaters April 12, a change of just a week.
So there you have it, if any of these projects over at Universal spark your interest you can now safely mark your calendars. Though, I would still do so in pencil, because we all know studios love to play around with their properties and we could yet see more changes before these films hit the big screen.
What do you think, which of these movies are you most excited for?
