Lionsgate took over Hall H today with a presentation showcasing The Last Witch Hunter and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, and now the studio has brightened the days of even those not in attendance at the San Diego convention by dropping a thrilling new trailer for the dystopian franchise finale.
Now, the tease doesn’t include any footage from the actual movie, unless director Francis Lawrence is heavily diverging from the source material by Suzanne Collins and re-imagining the fight for Panem as an epic community dance-off, but it’s still a badass continuation of the Katniss as queen angle that the last poster for the series topper went for earlier today.
The Hunger Games has always had some killer poster work, but Lionsgate has really been nailing everything about the marketing campaign for Mockingjay – Part 2. It’s clear that this is going to be a monumental final chapter for the series, with Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) having ascended from terrified Tribute to face of the rebellion.
Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson and Donald Sutherland all reprise their roles from previous franchise, and the supporting cast also includes Natalie Dormer, Jena Malone, Sam Claflin, Willow Shields and many, many more.
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 opens November 20.
With the nation of Panem in a full scale war, Katniss confronts President Snow (Donald Sutherland) in the final showdown. Teamed with a group of her closest friends – including Gale (Liam Hemsworth), Finnick (Sam Claflin), and Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) – Katniss goes off on a mission with the unit from District 13 as they risk their lives to stage an assassination attempt on President Snow who has become increasingly obsessed with destroying her. The mortal traps, enemies, and moral choices that await Katniss will challenge her more than any arena she faced in The Hunger Games.
